No matter what software I use to feed it with as long the signal path remains bit perfect. I did many experiments based on that setup. Audio Unit plugins are supported, though. I just use a wired ropieee bridge with intona usb isolator with a very good low noise power supply. Audirvana + (v2.x) + Pros Excellent Sound Quality IZOTOPE SRC (excellent) Sounds best upsampled 2x Direct Mode Good interface with OSX (driver control etc.) Excellent responsive personal support VST Plugins Price I don't think Audirvana Plus supports VST plugins (JRiver MC does). DSP measures to colorate the music for our ears is something to exclude here. Players include among others Tidal, Audirvana, and Roon. It's a nice feature but certainly not worth 70 a year over my 3.5 version. When Swiss company Merging Technologies they of Pyramix studio consoles launched the NADAC. My 3.5 version only allows playlists of steaming media OR a separate playlist for local ripped CD's. Some DACs already have proper galvanic isolation and reclocking - I wonder what audirvana or roon then possibly can do in terms of sound if everything else is the same. Audirvana Studio adds the ability to create playlists that combine ripped CD's as well as Qobuz/Tidal streams. One is an all Linn Akurate system, the other is Schiit monoblocks -> TA Criterion Speakers. Driving the DAC directly via USB from a Windows Core with everything (WLAN, graphics, …) of course influences the sound. What remains then to the software? Nothing I’d say. It doesn’t need an expensive computer to work I just bought two Nvidia Shield and dedicated one as a server and cost a lot less than Audirvana and Roon. ![]() Putting for instance a good galvanic usb isolator in between gets us rid of this for sure. Clearly, Audirvana was better, and you’ll immediately hear the difference. What remains? Yes of course noise and other unwanted signals via USB. Let’s assume for a moment your DAC does proper asynchronous processing and both audirvana and roon are able to send bit perfect streams via usb (since years really). I really don’t understand these discussions about sound quality anymore.
